July’s Filling Station… Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord Almighty!

Rev Chris Moore spoke from Isaiah 6 “Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord Almighty” Listen on Abbeydore Deanery YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnOQUM9Gbjs&list=UUWAC19myKMzFYrtzUXpZlpw&index=7 Chris explained that in the Hebrew language if you wanted to emphasise intensify something you doubled up the words. So the Song of Songs is the songiest song! The Lord of the Lords is the most Lordly of lords. The King of Kings is the most kingly of kings but here we have God being described as three times holy! How holy is that?! This is the only time in the Bible where this three times idiom is used. God is holy because he is holy… it is who he is. It is the very essence of who his character. And so since we are not holy, we are impure human beings, to see God is to die. Moses wasn’t allowed to see God’s face Exodus 33:18-23. Isaiah saw God in a vision not face to face. And so we are brought to repentance. But so did  John in Revelation.  And because of Jesus, we can come into God’s presence in chapter 15 “Who will not fear you O Lord?” The fear of the Lord speaks of the holiness of God but also of his mercy and love in sending Jesus to be our righteousness. We are clothed in Christ. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Proverbs 9:10 And so as we glimpse the awesome holy set apartness of God, we are led to utterly depend on Jesus who gives us hope.
