July 2021 – Jo Fothergill

Jo spoke about having an attitude of gratitude. She referred to two texts:
Luke 17:11-19
1 Thess 5:17

What does the Bible say about gratitude?

  1. It It God’s will for us (1 Thess 5:17)
    *All means all
*What is His will for me? This!
    Psalm 103:2
  2. It blesses Him
Luke 17 – the thanks was immediate, loud & extravagant, reverential. He was a Samaritan – he didn’t take God/Jesus’ action for granted.

Why are we encouraged to be a thankful people?

  1. We have so much to be thankful for
*Spiritual blessings Ps 7:17, Ps 106:1, John 15:9, John 17:3
    *Material blessings 1 Tim 6:6-8
    *Relational blessings
    *Answered prayers Ps 75:1

2 It refocuses us

How do we develop this attitude?
*Pray – ask God to help us, it’s his grace
*Be intentional – express thanks, maybe 5 things each morning?
*In all circumstances – make a choice to do this

Thanking is a key part in our walk with God.
