Meet Will Morris from The House of Bread in Stafford. He will be our speaker at The Trent Valley Filling Station Meeting at 7.30pm on 12th September. Please come along and lets be challenged into #RETHINKINGKINDNESS together.
For those of you who dont know Will and the work that he does please read on…
Becoming a Christian later in life! Part of a two for one baptism offer with my daughter at Church Lane Evangelical Church, Stafford. Literally changed my life upside down!
I worked for many years in the ceramics industry working in London and then traveling around the world and having the great pleaser in prompting England and English bone china for Wedgwood. This global perspective gave me an insight in to the wider world and experiences that would stay with me for ever. I saw first-hand the extremes of wealth and poverty, cultures and faiths.
House of Bread started 10 years ago offering help to the vulnerable and homeless in Stafford. Working out of a small kitchen we offered a meal once a week on a Wednesday night from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
Since that small start we have grown to operating 24/7 and running a café, food bank, clothes and toiletries resources. In addition we have over 150 volunteers and 4 part time staff.
We work with a wide range of agencies including the police, social services, The Family intervention partnership, Youth offering probation and housing options, Woman Aid and many more.
The work we do is complex, sad and joyful all at the same time. The most challenging is work with alcoholics and drug addicts. We have taken several funerals of our friends over the years and continue to support the most marginalised in our society.
In that time we have been awarded both an ASBO for giving tents out to homeless people and the Queens Award for Voluntary service a MBE!
The faith many have at HoB has now build to a chaplaincy team offering weekly bible study, monthly church and running Alpha courses. A growing part of the activity at Hob is now faith based.
We have a number of saying at House of Bread that include the following:
“The family that eats together stays together” and “The one constant is change “
Without my faith and the ability to give to God when I need to I could not do the work I do at Hob.
Be blessed and look forward to seeing you on the 12th
